Hickory Chair president, Parker Goss, dies at 63

HICKORY, N.C. — Steven “Parker” Goss, president of Hickory Chair, died June 18 in Durham. He was 63.

Goss was born May 15, 1960, in Indiana, Pa., to Thomas and Nancy Goss. He attended Indiana University and the University of Dallas, where he met his wife.

Goss made his career in the furniture business and was employed at Hickory Chair. He joined the company as vice president of merchandising in 2015 and was named president in November 2022. While at Hickory Chair, he led the company’s launch of licensed collections with David Phoenix, Ray Booth and Kim Scodro.

“Parker embodied the values that we all work hard each day to live up to. He was quick to laugh, supportive of those around him, earnest in his work and exceedingly loyal … a good man,” said Alex Shuford III, CEO of Rock House Farm Family of Brands.

Goss is survived by wife of 34 years, Ellen; two children; and two sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on June 29 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory. The family will receive friends from 4:30-5:45 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
