CLEVELAND – Minwax, a maker of wood care products, has chosen wood stain hue Bay Blue as its color of the year for 2024.
“Bay Blue is at the intersection of contemporary and classic,” said Sue Kim, Minwax director of color marketing. “The 2024 Color of the Year is a rich shade that elevates and enhances the natural wood within our homes.”
According to Kim, Bay Blue has the unique ability to transform traditional heirlooms into modern showpieces. The color “breathes new life into cherished furnishings and rooms, effortlessly blending vintage charm with contemporary silhouettes,” said Kim. “Whether revitalizing a treasured furniture piece or reinventing a room’s mood, Bay Blue is the perfect companion for DIYers—both new and experienced—seeking a timeless yet distinctive aesthetic.”
Bay Blue pairs well with warm wood tones and copper accents, infusing a renewed vitality into timeless designs for the modern home, according to the company.
“This year’s color is meant to ignite the creativity of DIYers to think of bold and rich color stain options when planning their next home project, helping to completely transform their living spaces,” said Kim. “With Bay Blue available in both solid and semi-transparent wood stain opacities, the possibility to create custom looks is easily within reach.”
For its launch event, Minwax partnered with a Houston-based business called the Succulent Bar to help introduce the new color. The company sent out press kits in the color of the year that said ‘Keep on Finishing’ that were filled with three succulent plants that could easily be replanted and shared.
“Studies show that the act of planting is known to be a relaxing hobby as well as an effective way to relieve stress,” said Jessica Siefert, company founder. “Our in-person and virtual succulent planting workshops are the perfect setting for groups to learn, create and socialize together.”
