The human body in all its forms has been inspiring people for nearly as long as we’ve existed on Earth as a species. The Michelin System of sofas can now be added to the ever-growing list of creations that cite its appeal. With a curvilinear, voluptuous shape that’s reminiscent of the folds of our own skin, Michelin is a dynamic piece of furniture with a sensual silhouette. MUT Design, the duo of Alberto Sánchez and Eduardo Villalón, known for their emotional multidisciplinary designs, created the modular seating system in collaboration with the Valencian company MISSANA.
Michelin’s elements provide the drama of a classic Baroque nude while also making a contemporary statement of modern design. Versatile and functional, the modular seating system is all about simple, playful elegance. It’s what MUT Design does best in their work – unleashing the joy that designing brings them and translating it into passion. Using just two pieces – one corner and one single-seater module – multiple seating configurations can be created to suit various spaces and needs.
Michelin’s modules are designed to fold in on themselves in one sweeping curve to create the seat, backrest, and armrests, depending on which way they’re positioned. At the same time, the seating is extremely comfortable, with soft lines and warm textiles. This is somewhere you can really settle into while watching a movie, finishing up your latest read, or indulging in an afternoon nap.
MISSANA’s master upholsterers in Spain run it across the finish line, taking great care in their work to stay true to the brand’s views on optimism, craftsmanship, and love of color. With a “Local Made” philosophy, MISSANA relies on a chain of suppliers that are located less than 60 km from their facilities as a declaration of intention and respect for local products and artisans.
